MALAWI UNDERTAKING VASPS RISK ASSESSMENT
The country is currently conducting risk assessment on Virtual Assets (VAs) and Virtual Assets Service Providers (VASPs) in relation to how these can be used for money laundering, terrorist financing and other financial crimes. The assessment is being coordinated by FIA, RBM and Ministry of Finance. It is targeting various stakeholders such as Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), Financial Institutions, Other Reporting Institutions, and the general public. When concluded, the assessment will help the country to formulate an appropriate policy on virtual assets.
Among others, the risk assessment aims at gathering information that seeks to understand the public use, knowledge, and perceptions of VAs and VASPs. Further, the assessment will help check if the country has adequate measures to curb money laundering, and terrorism and proliferation financing, among others.
